Description
Vetsulin is a a porcine insulin zinc suspension used to reduce high blood sugar and clinical signs of high blood sugar in dogs and cats with diabetes.
Side Effects
Vetsulin may cause injection site reactions and in serious cases low blood sugar.
Precautions
Vetsulin is a U-40 insulin preparation and should only be administered with properly matched pen needles and delivery device.
Do not give insulin to your animal if they are not eating. If your animal is sick or if their activity levels change insulin requirements may also change.
There are many different insulin products. Make sure you are giving your animal the correct product and using the correct needle type and giving the correct dose.
The safety and effectiveness of this medication in animals that are pregnant or lactating or in puppies or kittens has not been established.
Do not use this medication in animals that are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Active Ingredient: Insulin pork
Inactive Ingredient (s): Zinc chloride, methylparaben, sodium chloride, sodium acetate, water
Dosage will be determined by your veterinarian based on your animal’s weight and blood sugar levels. Typically this medication is given once a day with or right after a meal.
Follow all directions provided with VetPen kit and from your veterinarian for proper insulin dose delivery.
Vetsulin is available as a 40 unit/mL suspension in multidose cartridges. Each cartridge is 2.7 mL and they are supplied in cartons of 10.
Once the pen is prepared with a cartridge it may be stored on its side. Store in the refrigerator and do not freeze.
